A good welcome kit has four to six items a new joiner would otherwise buy: a bottle or tumbler, a notebook and pen, one piece of apparel (polo, tee or hoodie), one tech accessory (charger, hub or cable set) and a short welcome note signed by the manager. Add a laptop sleeve or backpack for roles that travel, and a snack box if the kit ships to a home. Skip novelty items, generic mugs and anything with a printed motivational quote — they are the first things binned. What should you leave out?
- Generic ceramic mugs — most desks already have three.
- Stress balls, fidget toys, keychains and other novelty fillers.
- Anything printed with a quote rather than a logo.
- Perishables in an office-delivered kit that may sit for a week.
- Apparel without confirmed sizes — a wrong-size hoodie is worse than none.

What about the note, the box and the sizes?
The note is the item people photograph. Keep it short, signed by the hiring manager, printed on card — not a generic HR letter. The box is a branded mailer if kits ship to homes, or a simpler carton if they are handed over in the office. Apparel sizes come from your joiner roster; if you cannot collect sizes in time, swap apparel for a sleeve or bag and avoid the problem.

What should be included in a new employee welcome kit?
A bottle or tumbler, a notebook and pen, one piece of apparel, one tech accessory and a signed welcome note — that is the standard five. Add a laptop sleeve or backpack for travelling roles and a snack box for kits shipped to homes. Keep it to items the person would have bought anyway.
How many items should a welcome kit have?
Four to six. Below four it feels like a giveaway; above six the cost goes into fillers nobody keeps. If the budget is tight, cut apparel first (it also needs sizes) and keep the bottle, notebook and one tech item.
Should a welcome kit include a t-shirt or hoodie?
Only if you can collect sizes on the joiner roster before the order. Apparel is the item people wear on photo day, but a wrong size is worse than no apparel. When sizes are uncertain, a laptop sleeve or a bag carries the brand just as well.
Can every item carry our logo?
137 of the 595 kit-ready items on the deck take a logo — sticker, UV print, digital print, laser engraving or embroidery depending on the material. The rest ship as-is in a branded box with a printed card, which is often the cleaner look for premium items.
